It’s time to get my summer fitness on! As you might know from my previous post, I am starting the Clean 9 challenge for a second time this year to reset my eating habits and to feel that little bit healthier.
The last time I attempted this I had no idea what to expect and to be honest, I actually didn’t think it would make a difference at all – but boy was i wrong!
I had struggled to loose weight for years and it was even harder after my first child. In all honesty I just didn’t believe I was capable and part of me thought I didn’t deserve to be thinner – silly thought I know but if you knew my past(nothing horrific) you would understand but that if for another post 😉
So after those years, imagine my surprise when I actually lost weight felt awesome and even lost inches from waist, arms and legs. Nothing worked for me before, even clean eating and drinking lots of water didn’t really do much.
So for the second time this year, I am challenging myself to become a better me and I am inviting you to join me 🙂
Preparing for the Challenge
This time round I understand why it is necessary to prepare the body for what is to come. I’m a big tea drinker, so a sudden decrease in caffeine was pretty hard – any caffeine drinkers will probably know about caffeine withdrawal, massive headaches are just one of the effects.
Here are 4 easy steps I have been following in preparation for the start of my challenge:
Reduce Caffeine Intake
It doesn’t take a genius to work this out since we are all aware that caffeine isn’t exactly very good for us. The programme is a caffeine free zone for the 9 days and if you are anything like me – drinking too much of it – you would probably want to decrease your intake or cut it out altogether.
There are alternatives to using caffeine as a means to keep us awake and gives us energy. These ways won’t leave us in a caffeine crash and feeling depressed and tired either. The Clean 9 has introduced me to some of the alternatives to tea and coffee but I won’t go into that right now.
Increase Water Intake
Our bodies are made up of an average of 65% water. An adult needs between 2 to 3 litres of water in a given day plus more on hot days or during exercise etc. So with this in mind, increasing your water intake is a must.
The Clean 9 also advises to have 2 to 3 litres throughout the programme so it is a good idea to get into the habit of it now.
I know that some sugar is necessary in our diets but not the kind that comes in the form of sweets, chocolate, biscuits and fizzy pop – including energy drinks.
During the Clean 9 you will need to cut out sugar for the course of the 9 days so reducing the sweet treats early is always a great idea to make your programme more smooth in transition.
Did you know?
Fruit and some vegetables have natural sugars in them
From my days of having gestational diabetes whilst carrying my second child we were told that certain vegetables should be avoided this included things like parsnips. For my plan, I will be reducing the amount of parsnips I consume due to the sugar in them.
Did you know?
Parsnips were used as a sweetener in Europe before the arrival of cane sugar.
Bring in the Healthy Stuff!
Cooking healthy meals has been surprisingly easy to do. It was a constant fear of mine that cooking from fresh ingredients would leave my meals bland and tasteless but the boys loved it more than shop bought pre-processed stuff.
If you are unsure about fresh cooking, take a look around and follow a few recipes to get started and when you feel comfortable enough, be creative and make up your own – it’s quite fun to bring a bunch of colours together, throw in a few herbs and be creative.
